October 8, 2021
Dear Palos 118 Families,
I hope everyone is ready for their extended weekend coming up. With school now in full swing, and schedules packed, it is always nice to get that extra day off to relax and unwind.
It is National Principals Month in October, and we have been recognizing our outstanding building principals and their efforts this week on our social media channels.
All of our principals and assistant principals go above and beyond in their efforts every day for their students and staff. If you get a chance this month, please let them know how much we appreciate their continued dedication in helping our students reach their full potential.
It is also Fire Prevention Week this week. Students at Palos East learned how to react in the event of a fire from Palos Fire Protection District Lt. Aaron Rutter. Lt. Rutter taught students how to recognize the sound of the smoke detector in their homes. He also showed them that they should get low to avoid smoke, and also to make lots of noise when fire crews arrive so they can find them.
Students also had a chance to try on some fire protection gear and practiced getting low, making noise, and crawling through a simulated room full of furniture to find those who need help.
Thank you to Lt. Rutter and Palos Fire Protection District for visiting this week. You can learn more about fire safety and Fire Protection Week here.
Vaccination Clinic Oct. 16
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) will host a vaccination clinic at Palos South on October 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The clinic is free to the public.
Appointments can be made online through the IDPH website, and walk-ins are also welcome. The Pfizer two-shot vaccine will be available as well as the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
This Week's Metrics
The school district remains committed to keeping our students and staff safe during in-person learning. Thank you to our families for their continued partnership.
You can review this week's updated COVID-19 dashboard here.
Have a great weekend.
Best regards,
