The Chicago Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks project started when Major Frederic Mclaughlin asked the National Hockey League if he could form a team in Chicago. The National Hockey League approved. Frederic said the team would be ready by the 1926-27 season. He chose the name Blackhawks for his team. there are many different stories about why he chose this name. One story is during World War I, Mclaughlin had served with a machine gun battalion (Blackhawk).

Another Problem was how the jersey would look. The design was made by Irean Castle and would have a Chief Blackhawk head. The jerseys were black and white and stripes across the top. As time went on the design of the jersey changed. Finally, the first season started at the Chicago Stadium.

The Chicago Stadium was opened on March 28, 1929. It was the biggest sports arena in the world. To build the Chicago Stadium it cost 7,000,000 dollars. Some events held in the Chicago Stadium are, a boxing match in 1932, the NHL championship when the Bears beat Portsmouth was decided there. Then, of course, the Blackhawks first game.
The Chicago Blackhawks were one of the first six hockey teams. This year is their 75th anniversary playing. They have won the Stanley Cup many times in 75 years. They also won other awards.
