Packet - multi-disciplinary including Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science.
LANGUAGE ARTS - 1) tasks include a letter describing a battle scene, the daily life of a soldier, training, or various assignments of the soldiers. 2) In addition a journal will be kept to describe a specific action from a list of major battles. The journal should include; battle strategies for both sides, outcome for the battle and location of the conflict. Also the students and teacher will determine additional topics to be included in the journal.
MATH - complete statistics on the battle. This information will be
presented in a graph format using Microsoft Excel. Both pie and bar graphs
will be utilized. Statistics will include the numbers killed, missing,
wounded and surviving. Students will include processes used to find the
percentages.
SOCIAL STUDIES - Students will complete a research paper with bibliography
for their chosen battle. The paper will be 3-4 pages in length.
SCIENCE - 1-2 page paper on information about one particular phase
of medical practices during the Civil War. The specific area will be jointly
decided on by the teacher and students. They may include the following:
illness, disease, accidents, surgical practices, wounds, orthopedics, or
complications arising from the above.
