In the event of a jousting tournament, each knight would stand 100 yards away from each other with their lances in hand. Then they would charge at each other attempting to knock their opponent off their horse without breaking their lance. If both lances break and the riders don't fall off, their pages would bring them new lances. If they were both knocked off their horse, they would continue the battle with swords on foot until one surrendered. The armor would consist from 14-18 gauge steel depending on the area of where you look. Under the armor would be a mail, or a link of metal links. There was also another type of jousting. . You would try to put your lance through a ring called a joust ring. Squires assisted their knight by having water and an extra sword in case the first sowrd broke.
