Mythical Beasts
In the Middle Ages there were many imaginary beasts. Two of which were the dragon and the griffin. The dragon was an imaginary beast. It looked like a crocodile with wings, huge razor sharp claws, and it could breath fire. In the Medieval period the dragon stood for death and sin. In the Middle Ages the dragon was the most feared beast. The griffin was an imaginary creature that had an eagle head and huge eagle wings along with a lion’s body and sometimes with a serpent’s tail. The griffin was sometimes referred to as a gargoyle.There were many other beasts as well such as the phoenix and Grendel. The phoenix was an imaginary bird that lived in Arabia. According to myths, every 500 years it will cloak itself in fire looking like a firebird, and from its flames it will create another phoenix. In Christian mythology the phoenix stood for immortality and resurrection. Grendel was also in Middle Age mythology. Grendel was the son of Cain. He looked lizard-like with talons and a very bad stench. He was a vicious and ugly imaginary beast. He was killed in battle against Beowulf.
