By: Musicgirl| Drew
could smell the sweet aroma of rose perfume surrounding her. Then
she started getting the chills that wouldn't go away. At that moment,
she saw swirling air forming into an outline of a human or a ghost.
Drew didn't know what it was. She wanted to sream, but she
couldn't. She was too scared. This is just one thing that happened
in the book
Who's There? by Stephanie S. Tolan.
The main setting in the book is in the summer and fall of 1994 at Rose Hill, a house in Massechusetts. Rose Hill is very old. It was made in the early 1800's. A lot of different families lived in the house. There are also old antiques in the attic as Drew finds out as well as the clothes and furniture. There are also writting objects like quill pens and a lot of other items. Rose Hill carries a sort of welcomng feeling to people provided by the big gate at the beginning of the driveway. The house inside and outside is just beautiful. It also has a huge cozy library with a big fireplace. Rose Hill is also mysterious. It is mysterious because Drew feels the presence of a ghost. Will, the gardener, also says he sw a ghost in the window of the house. At night, Drew hears singing coming from her brother Evan's room. There were lots of characters in the house at that time. The main character in the book is Drew. She is very adventurous. For example, she goes up into the pitch black, creeky attic. She tries to find the jounal that was guarded by the ghost. Then she goes to look for Amalie, which is very dangerous because she chases Amalie out to the pond. Drew is also very brave. She is very brave because she goes to find the journal as well as into the writting room where Amalie was. She also goes into the pond to try to save her brother, Evan, and risks her own life. There are a lot of plots like this in the story. The confict in this story is Drew vs. Amalie, but I also think that it is Drew vs. herself because she has to get over her fear of Amalie to get the journal. Some rising actions in the novel are when Drew gets nauseous in the attic for no reason, and then she smells sweet rose prefume. She also senses cold and feels the presence of someone. The theame of the novel is that you can't ever change the past. Amalie learns that she should have never written those things that she wrote in her journal.
My overall reaction to the novel is that it is a great mystery that everyone
should read. The author seems to describe things better than any
other author. This novel compares to other suspense novels because
in the book Jade Green there is a big house with a ghost haunting
it. I would recommend this novel to Alexa Max because she is like
the Drew character. We really experience the suspence of this novel
as Amalie chases Evan into the dark black pond and Drew runs after him.
She tries to stop him, but it is too late...
