Who's

"Oh my goodness!" screamed Drew. The dresser crashed in front of the door. "Oh my goodness! She is getting closer!" she shrieked. Drew was finally free, and Evan was standing outside of his room with his rabbit, just staring. This book is called Who's There by Stephanie S. Tolan. This book is set at Rose Hill in Massachusetts around the present. Rose Hill is mysterious. For example, Drew can feel the presence of an unfriendly ghost. Will, the garden boy, said he even saw the ghost in the writing room. At night, Drew hears soft singing. Rose Hill is calm, too. There are no neighbors around, everything is in order, and there is no interaction with others. The house is old. It was built in the 1800's. It has many antiques in the attic. Plus, there are old letters everywhere. Rose Hill may be interesting, so is Drew. Drew, the main character in the book, is about 12 years old. She has chest- length blond hair, green eyes, and an oval face. Drew is always very afraid. She doesn't like to sleep in her own room. She can't go up the front stairs, and she doesn't like to go near the writing room. She is also pleasant. For example, she tries to be nice to the ghost, listens to what Aunt Jocelyn says, and she says "please" and "thank you." Also, Drew is adventurous, like when she tries to look for the ghost, or when she went exploring outside Rose Hill. That's not all, she went into the attic looking for old objects. Drew isn't the only adventurous thing, the plot is, too. The conflict is Amalie, a ghost, is haunting Rose Hill. Drew needs to find out why Amalie is here and how to get rid of her. Drew can't get open the writing room door, and the cat screams at it. Drew finds out the ghost is Amalie. Finally, Will and Drew go into the writing room, and Will sees Amalie again. Drew learns to face her fear, and she learns that you can't change the past. I really enjoyed the book, and it was very suspenseful. I think the author described the ghost and what she did very well. I do wish there would have been more similes. I just started Jade Green about a girl and ghost. It is similar. I would recommend this novel because it was shocking and mysterious. So take this book off a library shelf and start reading.
