Reviewed by: Sam Westing ![]() ![]() Boom! Bang! A bomb went off in the restaurant kitchen. This is only one strange thing that happens in The Westing Game, by Ellen Raskin. The Westing Game takes place in late fall, winter, and early spring. Sunset Towers is in Westingtown, Wisconsin. Westingtown is very strange. When the heirs got to Sunset Towers, their names were already engraved in the mail boxes. Also, the sun sets in the west, but Sunset Towers faced east. It didn't have any towers either. All the residents were related to Sam Westing. Sunset Towers was pretty cool. It had one-way glass. Sunset Towers also had a coffee shop, a doctor’s office, and a Chinese restaurant. It had a doorman and maid service. Just like Westingtown, Mr. Westing is strange. Mr. Westing is sixty-five. He has gray hair, a gray beard, and usually dresses in suits. Mr. Westing is also strange. He disappeared mysteriously after a near fatal crash. Mr. Westing is also strange because he made "The Westing Game". Mr. Westing is very intelligent. He is intelligent because started Westing Paper Products from scratch. In a way, he is intelligent because he made the very hard "Westing Game." The conflict is the struggle to win the "Westing Game." It was scary when Turtle went into the Westing Mansion and found the dead body of Mr. Westing lying in his four poster bed. It was a cliffhanger when the heirs were about to find out who killed Mr. Westing. It was strange when they were trapped in Sunset Towers during the blizzard because it brought them closer together and they were trapped with the killer. It doesn't matter who you are, it's how you act. From that, Mr. Westing learns more about his heirs.
I thought that this was a great book. Ellen Raskin wrote this book especially
well. She put in some awesome cliffhangers. I would recommend this book
to people in middle school because it is an interesting book. Who will
solve the Westing murder?
