The Mystery of the Hidden Hand

You would have never guessed that one hand would make a big scene. Well, it did in this book.  This book is called The Mystery of the Hidden Hand, by Phyllis A. Whitney.
This book was set in the present time. It took place in Greece, in a town called Rhodes. It was in the middle of the summer when the story began. Rhodes was a beautiful town. It had many hidden gardens. The beach was close by so you could hear the splashing of the waves. It's ancient statues stood tall all over town. Rhodes was also peaceful. It was peaceful because of the ocean with the birds chirping. It was never really crowded with people screaming. Also, the fountains made a gentle sound that people could hear when they walked outside. Rhodes was also well-built. The houses looked old but were still nice to view. The streets were made of bricks that a had a faded gray color. Also, there were some factories around town that had been standing there for years but were still up and running. In this town, Gale ,who liked to snoop around at all these marvelous sites, was living at a hotel nearby.
The main character in this story is Gale Tyler.  She is a 12 year old girl with short hair. She always wears dresses. Gale is a really bright person. Gale is bright because at the beginning of the story she knew who was in the secret black cape. Gale also figured out that her cousin, Tassoula, has a real good talent which is painting. Also, since Gale was so bright, she solved the mystery. Gale is also talented. She was talented for finding things. She is good at speaking because her voice is calm and clear. Finally Gale is talented because she is good at solving mysteries. Gale loves to explore. She explored the garden that belonged to her grandfather Thanos. Gale explored the museum as well. Finally Gale explored the bookshelf in the grandfather's room and found the pieces of the broken tile.
The main conflict in this book is between two characters  named Grandfather Thanos and Geneva Lambrou. They are fighting over the hand that was found by Warren. First, Gale sees a person in a black cape running up and down in the halls of the hotel. Next,  Gale finds the tile on the grandfathers bookshelf. Finally, Nicos steals something from Grandfather Thanos's desk. The theme in this story is that everyone has a talent  even though you can't find it right away. Gale soon realizes that her talent is a true detective.
My overall impression of the book is that it was boring and really wasn't a mystery. Phillis A. Whitney was really good at describing the imagery of Greece. Also, this novel compares with the other books I have read by the author explaining the setting so well. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone because it would be a waste of his or her time!
