The Egypt Game

Have you ever read a book by Zilpha Kaetly Snyder?  Well, if you haven't, you should read The Egypt Game

This book takes place in the present in a place called Egypt which some kids make up in a backyard.  Egypt is very free.  Nobody except six kids know about this place, there is no supervision, and the six kids make up there own secret writing.  Egypt is also very scary.  There is a murderer on the loose, one of the kids sees someone at night, and the main character gets caught at night by someone.  Egypt has lots of ceremonies.  They have lots of fires, there are dances, and they do oracles. April performs some of the oracles.

April likes to wear very long, fake eyelashes.  April is very brave.  She goes to Egypt at night, she is the first kid to talk to the professor, and she writes a letter to her mom saying she does not want to see her at Christmas. April is also very clever. She thought of the Egypt game, she reads lots of books, and she thought of the secret writing that only the six kids know.

The conflict is person vs. person. Things get more mysterious when there is a murderer on the loose, and when Ken and Toby join the game.  April learns that you have to talk to someone instead of  keeping things to yourself.
