Haunted Island

The dark windy storm followed by earthquakes separated the land. What book
is this? Haunted Island by Joan Lowry Nixon.
The book takes place on a deserted island in Massachusetts. There isn't anyone living there anymore. Lots of people ran away from the island, but no one knows why except for stories. There aren't any buildings except for one house. The house belongs to Joshua Hanover. The island is very mysterious because the woods are jet black, and Chris and Amy never know what is around. The island is also scary, because they never know where the ghosts are. There were also earthquakes on the island, so they can't ever be too safe. There are also snakes inside the trees. This is all found out by Chris. The main character in the book is Chris. Chris is twelve years old and has brown hair. Chris is a very brave boy who does many things. He does brave things in a place he doesn't know well. He told Joshua the truth about Amelia. Joshua thought that Amelia left him. Chris looked for many different clues. Also, Chris is very smart. He knows just about everything to know about the wild. He also knows how to navigate the island. He knows how to make a fire without a lighter or matches. He also listens to everyone. He listened to Amos's long story about the island. He also listened to Amy's story about running away, and Amelia's diary. Will he tame the ghosts,or will he be trapped on the Haunted Island? The main struggle of the book is to tame the ghosts. Chris needed to do this to help Amy's aunt. First, Chris and Amy hear Amos's spooky story. Then they go into Joshua's house. Finally, they find Amelia dead in an underground cave. The book shows that you can't guess what will happen until you know the true facts . Chris learns to help the ghosts, not just to take the money. This wasn't a great mystery. I think this because it wasn't a regular type of mystery. Joan Lowry Nixon did a good job, but she could have used a lot more similes in a book. I wouldn't recommend this to people who like mysteries. This is a book that only a few people would like. This book is a different style of writing. Although I would recommend this to people who don't like books. I hope you get out of this book what you want. |
