From the Mixed up Files of Basil E.Frankweiler

It's dark.  Only the emergency lights show.  Its spooky and cold.  No sweet sound of a lullaby.  How would you like to stay in a museum for two whole weeks?   That's what Claudia and Jamie do in From the Mixed up files of Basil E. Frankweiler a book written by E.L. Kongisburg.

This novel is set back about 15-20 years ago at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  The museum is the main place Claudia and Jamie are at.  The museum is a beautiful place.  For instance, it has a fountain with statues in the middle of the fountain.  The fountain has sparkly running water.  Its bathrooms are also beautiful.  The museum has a statue that is very valuable.  This statue is Angel. The museum is also very mysterious.  These men working at the museum came in the men's bathroom and talked about moving Angel.  Angel also made Claudia want to hug her so much, for some odd reason. The museum was also peaceful.  At night you could hear yourself breathing.  Claudia and Jamie fell asleep right away when they hit their blankets and pillows.  At night, Claudia and Jamie could hear the guard's footsteps, even when he was in the next room.  Claudia thought this place was a great place to hideout.

Claudia is a young girl.  She has blonde hair and is as tall as any girl her age.  She has blue eyes and is very adventurous.  Claudia ran away from her house because she felt that she wasn’t needed.  She decided to stay at a museum.  She was brave to go to Mrs. Frankweiler’s house.  She was also brave because she wanted to stay at a museum, which is creepy.  Claudia was also very smart.  Claudia would always correct Jamie’s grammar.  Claudia knew when to take a bath in the fountain.  Claudia would always take a bath when she and Jamie needed money.  They would take a bath in the fountain because there was money on the bottom of the fountain floor.  Claudia was smart when and when not to use money.  Claudia was also spoiled.  Claudia got to take a bath in Mrs. Frankweiler’s home.  Jamie did not.  Claudia got to choose her own bedroom before Jamie.  Whenever she wanted to eat, Claudia and Jamie got to eat.

This novel had a conflict.  One thing that made the story more interesting was Claudia and Jamie ran away.  Then they discovered Angel. They wanted to find out who made Angel. The point of the story that the author was trying to get to was that secrets make you different inside.

I liked the book a lot. The author used great imagery in her writing.  She used cliffhangers, flashback, and foreshadowing.    This is not like any other book I’ve read.  I would recommend this book to anyone that likes mysteries. If I had to rate this book from one to ten, I would give this book an eight.  Do you think Claudia will go home?  Read this book to find out.
