Among the Hidden

Bang! Bang!  ''Population Police,'' said the policeman. Luke ran upstairs and hid. Luke is the main character in Among the Hidden.

The setting is at Luke's house all day and all year. Luke's house is small.  The kitchen only fits a table and a stove. Matt and Mark, Luke's brothers, share a room and there are only two floors if you count the attic. Luke's house is moody.  Luke's dad is always angry, if its about Luke or bills. His mom feels sorry that Luke has to stay in the attic. Luke is angry that he has to stay inside. Luke's house smells fantastic! The bread Luke cooks leaves the house smelling great. The bacon smells wake Luke up in the morning. Luke's mom's perfume stays in the house even after Luke's mom leaves.

The main character is Luke. He's about ten. Luke is emotional. He cries about having to stay inside. He's mad at his dad for yelling at him. He is nice to Matt and Mark. Luke is neat, and his room is clean all the time. He tries to clean the house  even. At  the table, he eats with manners. Luke is very careful. He can go from Jen's to his house. He cooks without anyone noticing him. He is as quick as light when the population police come.

Luke has to stay inside because he's not ''legal'' Luke goes to Jen's house. The population police come to his house. The book is about how Luke is during his life. I recommend the book to sixth graders.
