             A  Stranger Came Ashore

A stormy pitch black night but for the fires that burn in the houses on the silent island. A shipwreck. A stranger. That’s what happened in the book called A Stranger Came Ashore. This book sounds very suspenseful, but it really is not. For the first couple of chapters it is a pretty good book, but after that it begins to be a poorly written book.

This book has one main setting: a gigantic island somewhere by England. The other setting is in the ocean right by the island. But mostly the family spends time outside. On the island, Finn Learson  and Robbie hunt. They hunt deer if they are lucky. They also plant seeds in the forests so they get more food. Then there is the ocean. They swim in the ocean to get stronger. They also try to find dead bodies from the shipwreck in the ocean and sometimes they fish to get even more food. The third and last setting is the house. In the house the family and Finn Learson eat, sleep, and entertain themselves.

The main character in A Stranger Came Ashore is Robbie. Robbie is a boy. He is the boy of the family who the stranger barged through the door. Robbie has a sister whose name is Elspeth. He has a grandfather named Old Da, and Robbie has a mom and a dad whose names are not mentioned in the book. But the stranger does have a name. The stranger’s name is Fin Learson. Finn Learson is the only person to survive the shipwreck. Out of all these characters, Robbie and Fin Learson are the most important. Robbie is very smart, brave, and strong. But Robbie is only about 14 years old. Old Da is a strange grandfather; people say that he is psychic. Old Da is old and intelligent. He is mostly in charge. Elspeth is a little older. She loves Fin Learson at first sight. In the story she is mostly endangered because Fin Lerason is not really a human.

Like any story, there is a conflict in A Stranger Came Ashore. The conflict is that the Fin Learson wants to take sameone from Robbie's family. I can't tell you who or why, but there is a good explanation.  If I tell you, it will ruin the book for you. But I will tell you this to wonder about. Finn Learson is not trying take that sameone by boat.... There is also a theme, and the theme of this story is to never trust strangers. Robbie finds that out in the end of the book. I could also say that Robbie pays a big price and scare for sameone that he loves.

Finally, there is one last thing that I want to tell you about this book. IT'S A POORLY WRITTEN BOOK. It has a good topic and plot, but it is not written well. I don't recommend this book for people who want to read a good book. I recommend this book to poeple who want to waste time. But I do have a favorite part. My favorite part was the shipwreck. I would give this book two stars.
