Shadowmaker

Bang! Bang! went the gun as B.J. shot the dogs. Oh, thought
Katie no dogs, no protection. What will happen to Katie with no
protection? Will she live or die? To find out read Shadowmaker
by Joan Lowery Nixon. It’s an excellent book.
The story takes place in Kluney, Texas. It is set in the spring. Kluney is a mysterious town because there is a strange sheriff, toxic waste is buried under houses and the sheriff always thinks the criminal is an outsider. Also, Kluney is a beautiful town because there is an ocean and beach, woods and pretty trees. Kluney is also a very turbulent town because there are burglaries, then the carnival worker gets murdered and Lana Jean is murdered. Oh, boy what a town. The main character is Katie. Katie has light chocolate colored hair, and she is medium sized. Katie is very secretive; she never tells her mom about ballet; she steals soil from Anita Bogg; and she keeps Lana Jeans journal without anyone knowing. Katie is also nice because she goes to a dance with Billy Don, gives Lana Jean some of her clothes and visits poor Anita Bogg. Further, Katie is brave because she drops a T.V on B.J’s head, stays at her house alone when she knew someone was trying to kill her and does the presentation with B.J in front of the class. Yikes, what a character. Furthermore, there is a big conflict in the story. The conflict is Katie vs. the murderer. In the conflict, Katie has to struggle to find out who the murderer is and to try to help her mom finish her novel. In Katie’s struggle things happen that make it harder for Katie like burglaries and the carnival workers death. From this experience with the murderers and burglaries Katie learns that if you follow your heart and trust your instincts you will be lead to the right path. In conclusion, the book is excellent. The author put a lot of suspense in the book and some imagery. She could have talked more about the toxic waste situation. This book is like any other mystery book only better. If you don’t like suspense because you get scared or for some other reason you probably shouldn’t get this book, but if you do like suspense, go out and get this book because if you don’t you’ll regret it. |
