Can you believe Palos Heights has been around since April 16, 1959? Since then, our city has provided the community with exceptional schools, churches, clean parks, etc. As of January 2002, the Palos Heights population was approximately 11,096 and continues to grow. To help people moving in and out of the city, the Mayor’s council has established special ordinances/permits for people to follow. The Palos Heights form of government is a Mayor-Council that has a mayor (who runs the town), city clerk (who verifies all the official documents), city treasurer (who handles the city’s money), and eight aldermen representing four wards. A person must be elected to these positions. These people are elected every two to four years. Tired of your boring old city? Well then you need to move to Palos
Park! It has 4,689 people for you to enjoy your day with. Unlike
other Palos cities, Palos Park has the commission form of government which

By: Mike T. and Adam M. The city government is divided in two branches. The mayor is the chief executive while the city council, 10 aldermen elected from 5 wards, is the legislative body. Government priorities and activities are established in an appropriation ordinance usually in April of each year. The mayor of Palos Hills is Gerald R. Bennett. He has been mayor for many years and will be for many more. The mayor makes appointments to the city’s special purpose boards and commission. The department heads usually report to the mayor with concerns. The mayor is responsible for the supervision of all city officers and employees. He has the power to discipline or dismiss city employees not covered by the civil service regulation. During council meetings, the mayor can vote in the event of a tie or whenever a vote greater than a majority is required. The 10 standing committees work with individual departments to review proposed or finance resolutions and orders before they are voted on by the full council. The city votes on ordinances, grants, bond issues, land sales, zoning changes and other financial appropriation. The city clerk of Palos Hills is Rudy Mulderink. Rudy is the official keeper of the records for the city of Palos Hills. The clerk publishes the journal of proceeding and issues all permits and licenses. Mr. Mulderink must attest to all official documents issues by the city and signed by the mayor. Kenneth Nolan holds the office of the city treasure for Palos Hills. The general duties of being treasurer are many. Mr. Nolan receives all money paid into the city, keeps records showing all money received, pays out all money approved by the city clerk or mayor and keeps separate accounts for all of the above. Palos Hills has a
city council meeting twice a month.
Palos Hills has activities
every month. One activity is The Palos Friendship Festival. This is held
every July. For more information about Palos Hills government, city council
meetings, or activities click http://www.paloshillsweb.org.
The city hall’s phone number is (708) 598- 3400.
