NURSE’S NOTES by Darlene Sierzega, R.N.
Does your child need to take medication in School? School District 118 Policy: The following is for the safety and accuracy of administration-
Children requiring medication in school whether it is prescription or over-the-counter require:
· Medication form to be filled out by parent (available in school office) and signed by physician. · Parent must bring in medication-do not send with child. · Students may not carry any medicine except inhalers or epipens (these still must have authorization form on file in health office).
· All
medicine must be provided in a pharmacy or brand labeled container (no
baggies with tablets or capsules will be accepted). · Parents must pick up any unused medication.
Cough drops-If you send your child to school needing cough drops: parents should send written permission for their child to use cough drops at school due to the potential choking hazard. If you do send a note to the teacher, please instruct your child to give the cough drops to the teacher to monitor use.
