Homework: The school board policy for 4th grade is approx. 50-60 minutes of homework per night. Homework is to be completed independently with parental guidance. Students will be expected to read the story from the reading book over the weekend in order to be prepared for Monday. If a student forgets an assignment, a note will be written in the assignment notebook to inform the parents it needs to be completed. · Assignment Notebook: Students are responsible for bringing it to school every day and for writing their homework down. Please check it every night and sign it. This is the best way for us to communicate on a daily basis and will teach your child to be organized. · Rules and Responsibilities: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Honest (These rules are posted in the classroom and are discussed throughout the year with the students.) · Rewards: Character Coupons, sticker grid, positive note home, free time, recess, etc. · Consequences: The first three offenses will require the student to fill in a Behavior Alert sheet (I will make a note of it in the assignment notebook). Please review it with your child, sign it, and send it back to school. The school has adopted a three-strike system in which the third offense requires a referral to the office and possibly a note/call to the parents. We will also be using a behavior chart for each month. Everyone begins with 100 points. When a rule is broken, points are crossed off. The remaining points make up their behavior grade. · Friday Folder: All important PFA, school, and class information/student work should be looked over during the weekend and the folder returned on Monday. · Reading Log: A monthly reading log will be sent home at the beginning of each month. Please initial the log for each night your child reads. The signed reading log must be returned to school at the end of the month to qualify for the reading log incentives program. (The weekly story in the reading book counts!) · Book Reports: Every month the students will explore a different genre and have a book project. The project requirements will be sent home at the beginning of the month. This is a great way for the students to be exposed to a variety of books and to enhance reading for meaning as well as enjoyment. · Snack: The class will have a brief snack during the morning to keep our energy level going until lunch. Recommended snacks are fruits, cheese, crackers, pretzels, veggies, granola, etc. Treats such as candy and chips are not allowed. · Birthday Treats: We love birthday celebrations! We have 20 students in our class so bring enough for everyone. Specials Schedule Monday- Art 11:45-12:25 Tuesday thru Thursday- P.E. 11:45-12:25 Friday- Music 11:05-11:45
