About Mrs. Casey
I have been teaching since 1987. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University. I received my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from National-Louis University in 1997. I have taught first grade, second grade, third grade, fourth grade, fifth grade, and seventh grade. I am married and have three daughters.
Mission For The Class
Respect * Responsibility * Honesty
When we know it’s up to us to do our work, do our best, keep our promises, choose our attitudes-that’s responsibility.
Respect is something we do- not just something we feel. We respect others by treating them in a way that says, “You are important to me!”
Truthfulness is a way of life, in which we are genuine in our character, and honest both in what we say and what we do.
These are the procedures of our classroom. these procedures are in effect at ALL times: Always BE PREPARED FOR CLASS with supplies, homework, assignments and textbooks.
I have instituted a behavior policy to create a classroom climate which enables all children to learn. Each month, your child will receive a new behavior card which starts at 100 percent. When your child chooses to break a rule, they will receive a verbal warning. After the warning, if the behavior doesn't change, he/she will receive an "X" on their behavior card. This "X" will equal 2 points off his/her card. At the end of the month, you child will earn a behavior grade based on the direct grading scale and the number of points earned.
Things to Remember
Special Schedule Monday – Music Tuesday – Gym Wednesday – Gym/Media/Computer Thursday – Art Friday – Gym
Friday Folders Every Tuesday your child will bring home a Friday Folder. In this folder you will find notes, graded work, and work completed in class. Please take all papers out of the folder, sign any work that has a stamp requesting to sign and return, sign the parent signature sheet (states that you saw papers in folder) and return the folder empty the following day.
Reading Logs It is the expectation that students read at least five nights for a minimum of 20 minutes. The 20 minute reading can be of the student’s choice. If the student is working on a book report, the reading they do for that can count toward their 20 minutes of reading. Reading logs are distributed at the beginning of each month and collected at the end of the month. I cannot accept any late reading logs.
Book Reports Throughout the year the children will explore a different genre and have a book project. The project requirements will be sent home. The children usually are given 3-4 weeks to complete book reports. This is a great way for the children to be exposed to a variety of books and to enhance reading for meaning as well as enjoyment!!
Snacks Included in our morning schedule will be a brief snack period. A healthy snack is suggested such as fruit, cheese and crackers, pretzels, or vegetable. Birthday treats are welcome. We have 20 children in our class. If your child celebrates a summer birthday, feel free to send in a birthday treat on their ˝ birthday.
