Friday * Morning Recess every day 10:45-11:00
Lunch:
A hot lunch with milk can be purchased for $2.30. Milk only is $0.30. Money for tokens should be turned in when needed in an envelope with your child's name on the front and labeled “lunch token money”. Multiple tokens may be purchased with checks payable to Palos School District 118.
Expectations: When a student is choosing an inappropriate behavior they will be given a verbal warning. For the second offense the student will fill out a Think Sheet during recess that will be sent home. Please review the sheet with your child, sign it, and return to school. The third offense requires a referral to the office where appropriate action will then be taken.
Take-Home Folders:
Homework: Third graders are expected to read at least 5 nights a week for at least 20 minutes. At the beginning of the week your child will bring home a spelling packet that is to be turned in by that Friday. In addition your child will have 1-2 pages of math homework each night. Occasionally, your child will have Science/Social Studies assignments or projects that are to be completed at home. Homework is checked for completion. It is not graded. Homework is an extension and enrichment of what we are learning in the classroom. Consequences for missing homework Each student is given 3 “Oops I Forgot My Homework” passes each Quarter. If a student fails to turn in their homework for whatever reason they simply take a homework pass home as a reminder to turn the missing assignment in the next day. If a student continues to fail to bring in their homework they will complete the assignment during their morning recess.
After 3
passes have been used in a quarter, an Assignment Alert will go home
that is to be filled out by the student, signed by a parent, and
turned in the next day with the completed assignment.
Reading
Logs: Your child should be reading for at least 20 minutes 5 -7 nights a week. Students will earn a bookmark and character coupon for turning in completed Reading Logs each month. In addition, one student per class is randomly drawn to receive a credit towards spending money at the annual Book Fair. Students who complete and turn in Reading Logs every month will participate in an end of the year ice cream party. Happy Reading!
Scholastic Book Order: If you would like to order books, please fill out the form completely and send either exact cash or check payable to: SCHOLASTIC BOOKS.
Birthdays: Thank you so much for your cooperation this year. Please feel free to contact me through notes, email (jzimny@palos118.org), or the school office (448-1084). I am looking forward to a great year!
