Reading Logs

Each Monday, the students will receive a blank reading log.  The students are required to read at least 20 minutes each night and fill in the log.  All logs need to be signed and dated by the parents and returned to school the following Monday.

 

Book Orders

I will send home a book order at the beginning of each month.  If you wish to order, please send in the order form by the indicated date.  A check should be made payable to “Scholstic Book Clubs”.

 

Birthdays

Please feel free to send in a birthday treat to help celebrate your child’s birthday.  If your child’s birthday falls over the summer, we can celebrate any time!  Just write me a note.  We have 22 students in our class.

 

Homework

Please check your child’s assignment notebook and home folder on a daily basis.  There will be nightly homework in reading, spelling, and math.  There may be additional assignments in English, science, and social studies.

 

CURRICULUM

Reading

We use the Harcourt Reading Series as the core of our reading instruction.  This series incorporates reading, writing, spelling, and grammar on a daily basis.  The children will be exposed to a variety of genre, including the following:

Our spelling lists correspond to the Harcourt Basal Reader stories each week.  These lists will go home at the beginning of each week.
