5th Grade Expectations
Opening Activities *Please arrive to school on time and be ready for a full day of learning. *Notes and/or monies will be collected. Attendance will be taken. If student absent- assignment notebook page will be completed for student. *Students will sharpen pencils, put away books, turn in homework etc. *Students will complete ‘Caught’ Ya’ sentence. *The day’s activities will be written on board for student to reference. *Friday folders will be collected on Monday.
Homework *Students should read at least 20 minutes of independent reading per night. Genre books are included. Each child has a copy of the reading log for the month. One signature is required for each month. *Practice skills from content area. *Study for quizzes and tests. *Finish assignments or work on projects. *No homework on weekends unless it is a project. *Duration time should not exceed 50-75 minutes per night. Independent reading time is in addition to assigned homework. *Any homework, project or test that receives a grade less than 70% will need a parent or guardian's signature.
Grading Scale 90-100=A 80-89=B 70-79=C 60-69=D Below 60= Together we will help children succeed!
*Assignments must be turned in on time. If it is sitting in the backpack in the hall, it is considered late. Points will be taken off each day it is late. *Student will need to fill out an ‘Oops I forgot my homework’ sheet and a parent or guardian signature is required. *If a child has more than 3 late assignments, they will not be able to participate in the quarterly homework activities. *Student may complete extra credit assignments when given to improve grade. Any low grade may improve if child corrects assignment. *Cursive writing, correct spelling and neatness are assessed. *Daily work, participation, effort, presentations are elements that comprise student grades.
Behavior *Students are expected to follow classroom procedures and rules that they have developed and understood. *Students need to incorporate our school rules of: respect, honesty and responsibility. *Consequences are: 1-verbal warning, 2- indoor recess, 3-note or phone call home.
Language Arts *Students should be reading independently and recording reading time on a reading log sheet. *Students should always be working on a genre project. *Students should practice their spelling words for Friday’s test.
Math *Students should be practicing their math facts. Timings will be given weekly on Fridays.
