Miss Boehm's Web Page

This web page will serve as an overview of the procedures in place in my fifth grade classroom and provide general information about expectations.  I send home a monthly newsletter to keep you informed of what is currently happening in our classroom.  It includes a summary of what we have accomplished, activities to look forward to, and important dates to remember.  Please read it!

Classroom Management

Room 31 Rules

1.      Treat others the way you want to be treated.

2.     Be respectful.

3.    Be responsible.

4.  Be honest.

The following is a list of individual, small group, and whole class techniques we will follow this year:

·        Reward tickets

·        Character Coupons

·        Give Me 5

·        Noise-o-meter

If students choose not to follow these rules, the consequences are as follows:

▫Name on the board = Warning

▫Name with 1 check = Loss of recess

▫Name with 2 checks = Phone Call Home

▫Name with 3 checks = Referral to Mrs. Mrozek

Homework

Homework is an extension of the learning experiences children have during their instructional day.  Your child is responsible for keeping track of his/her homework in an assignment notebook daily.

Our school expectation for 5th grade is 50-75 minutes a night.  It will be assigned on a daily basis in Reading (minimum of 20 minutes of self-selected reading to be recorded on the monthly reading log), Spelling (weekly lists and practice packets), and Math with additional assignments corresponding to the curriculum.

Please check your child’s assignment notebook and take home folder to make sure your child completes the work and returns it the following day unless an alternate due date is specified.

An assignment alert will be sent home as a reminder if work is not complete.  This form needs to be signed and returned the following day with the finished assignment.  Fifth grade has an incentive program to motivate students to complete their homework on time. Students with 3 or more missing or late assignments will report to study hall while others are engaged in a variety of fun activities.

In the event of a planned absence such as for a vacation, it is school policy that assignments can not be given ahead of time.  Upon their return, students will be given the work and will have the same number of days to complete it as they were absent.

Genre Program

Students will be introduced to a variety of genres this year.  Students will be responsible for completing various activities and book in a bag talks each quarter.  Please refer to the outline you signed for more detailed information.  An additional copy was also sent home at Open House for your reference.  The class viewed a video of a student presenting a book talk and examples of notecards and bags.  The students also received a copy of the rubric I will use to grade them.  This reading program will culminate with the Academy Awards of Books in May.

Grading

The grading scale is posted in the classroom.

90-100 = A

80-89 = B

70-79 = C

60-69= D
