AAAMath

Sorting

Students will be able to demonstrate:
  • reciting the days of the week and the months of the year
  • giving examples of activities that take place in the morning, afternoon, and night
  • identifying, sorting, classifying, and comparing plane shapes (circle, oval, square, rectangle, triangle,  and diamond) by shape, color, and attributes and explaining the sorting rule

Topics Introduced
  • Sequencing over time
  • Measure units of time
  • Identify, sort, classify, and compare 3D objects
  • Compare size of objects and containers
  • Understand spatial and distance relationships
  • Compare estimated measures to actual measures not to exceed 100
  • Identify coins

Students will practice:
  • sequencing a set of pictures depicting a series of events or order actions over time
  • telling time to the hour
  • identifying, sorting, classifying, and comparing 3D figures (cubes, spheres, pyramids, cylinders and prisms)
  • comparing size of objects and containers using correct vocabulary (i.e: longer, longest, shorter, shortest, taller, and tallest)
  • justifying size comparisons using direct comparisons or non standard units of measurement
  • using positional words correctly (i.e: above, below, inside, outside, on, off, under and between)
