Geometry and Measurement
Sixth Grade

STATE GOAL 7: Estimate, make and use measurements of objects, quantities and relationships and determine acceptable levels of accuracy.
STATE GOAL 9: Use geometric methods to analyze, categorize and draw conclusions about points, lines, planes and space.
Topics Mastered

Resources

  • Relationships between polygons and lines
  • Area, circumference, diameter, and radius of circles
  • Area and perimeter: trapezoid, triangles with altitude, and quadrilaterals
  • Relationships between angles: supplementary, complementary, right, acute, and obtuse
  • Reflections, translations, and rotations
  • Ordered pairs

AAA Math

Virtual Reality Geometry Activities

Students will be able to demonstrate:
  • identifying relationships between polygons and lines
  • identifying, defining, and finding the area, circumferences, diameter, and radius of circles
  • identifying, defining, and applying supplementary and complementary relationships between angles
  • measuring angles using a protractor
  • sketching, graphing, and creating a model of 2-D and 3-D shapes, then use them for problem based learning
  • identifying, predicting, and describing reflections, translations, and rotations of 2-D shapes
  • graphing, locating, and identifying points in the first quadrant
  • identifying angles as right, obtuse, and acute

Topics Introduced
  • Pythagorean Theorem
  • Square roots
  • Identification of points on a coordinate plane
  • Know angle sums for polygons

Students will practice:
  • demonstrating knowledge of the Pythagorean Theorem
  • demonstrating knowledge of square roots
  • identifying points on a coordinate plane
