Students will be able to
demonstrate: |
|
- identifying, describing, sorting,
classifying, and comparing plane and solid geometric shapes
- reading analog and digital clocks to the
hour and half-hour
- associating seasons with months and know
that 12 months equals 1 year, 7 days equals 1 week

|
Topics Introduced |
- Properties of plane and solid geometric
shapes
- Symmetry
- Length, volume, weight and mass
- Coins
- Temperature in Celsius and Fahrenheit
- Methods for estimation
- Estimated measurements vs. actual
measurements
- Congruent
|
|
|
Students will practice: |
|
- identifying related plane and solid
geometric shapes including circle-sphere, square-cube, triangle-pyramid,
rectangle-rectangular prism and their basic properties; draw plane
shapes
- identifying lines of symmetry in simple
figures and construct symmetrical figures using various concrete
materials
- measuring length, volume and weight/mass
using rulers, scales and other appropriate measuring instruments in the
customary and metric systems
- identifying and describing the relative
values and relationships among coins (penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and
half-dollar) and solving addition and subtraction problems using
currency up to $1.00
- reading a thermometer to the nearest
degree in Celsius and Fahrenheit
- describing possible methods for
estimating a given measure for a given problem
- comparing estimated measures to actual
measure taken with appropriate measuring instruments
- identifying "same shape and size" and
"same shape but different size"
