Palos Community Consolidated School District 118 Mission and Education Goals

The Mission, Vision and Beliefs of Palos 118 focus on providing the best education possible for children. The Board of Education annually develops goals and action targets designed to accomplish the Mission.   There are five major district goals.   Action targets for these goals identify the working focus to accomplish the goals and to meet the continued expectation for excellence in our schools. 

Our Mission

The mission of Palos Community Consolidated School District 118 is to provide a safe, supportive and quality learning environment utilizing educational resources to engage its students to become confident, adaptive and productive life-long learners.

Our Beliefs

  • Children come first, therefore, all decisions will be based on what is best for children.
  • Family, staff, community and students share the responsibility for the development of a well-rounded child.
  • A safe, healthy, caring and supportive school environment is essential for student learning.
  • Each child has the right to be educated according to his/her needs, instructional level and rate of learning.
  • The quality of school personnel directly influences the quality of the child’s school experience.
  • Individuals impacted by decisions must be an integral part of the decision making process.
  • Respect, mutual trust and open communication at all levels are essential to a positive school environment.
  • A responsive learning system is necessary to prepare children for a continually changing world.
  • A quality learning environment requires the investment of human and financial resources.

Our Vision

We see a school district which:

  3. Provides an organizational structure which emphasizes and encourages communication, creativity, flexibility, and accountability.
  4. Prepares students for the many diversities and cultural influences that shape their world.
  5. Provides an enriched program for all students which includes an integrated curriculum and basic competency development.
  6. Provides an ongoing staff development program that emphasizes professional growth, colleague collaboration, and technological training.
  7. Employs technology in learning and communication both within and beyond the school district.
  8. Provides an enthusiastic and exciting environment for teaching and learning.
  9. Encourages innovation and creativity amongst students and faculty.
  10. Provides continuous opportunities for articulation among staff members, students, parents, and community.
  11. Provides a balanced student assessment program that incorporates a variety of strategies.

  13. Maintains physical facilities that accommodate varying class sizes and functions.
