The staff at Palos West extends a warm welcome.  We are excited to begin the school year and look forward to building relationships with all of you.  Community involvement and parental support are key elements to the success here in District 118, and we encourage you to seek ways to become involved and collaborate with our entire staff to ensure the success of our children.

Palos West is committed to providing all students with a high-quality educational program.  While being sensitive to the emotional needs of our growing children, a strong academic focus based on the Illinois Learning Standards leads our work.  This balance is essential as we strive to help each student reach his or her fullest potential.

A critical element to a successful school is communication.  During the course of the year you may have questions or concerns regarding your child’s progress.  Your primary relationship with the school is through your child’s classroom teacher.  We encourage you to make contact with your child’s teacher whenever you have a concern.  Additionally, if you would like time to discuss any concerns with Mrs. Smith or me, please feel free to set up an appointment.

This year we are excited about implementing a school wide positive approach to discipline with a strong focus on character education.  Palos West has joined hundreds of Illinois schools as we participate in the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Program (better known as PBIS).  Five of our staff members have had extensive training in the program and will lead the way to building respect, responsibility, honesty, and compassion in all of our children.

Working together, our learning community will prosper as we continue our path of lifelong learning.  Although the work of parents, teachers, and administrators is never easy, the rewards are countless as we inspire the leaders of tomorrow!!
