October 8th-12th
Curriculum
of the Week:
Reading: We will read Wilson Sat Alone and review the story
elements. We will take a
test
on this story and vocabulary words this Friday.
Writing: We will learn about the Telling
Part of a sentence and the Spelling test is Friday.
Math: We will continue to compare
numbers (greater than/less than) with a test on Friday.
The
students will be tested on math flashcards on Tuesday mornings this year.
Social
Studies: This first
quarter we are learning about the layers of the Earth, the 7
continents
and the 4 oceans.
Science: This first quarter we are learning about the
food groups and nutrition.
Updates:
*The 6 +1 Traits of
Writing: We are
continuing to discuss the Trait of ideas
and the trait of conventions. I will be looking for detailed sentences that
show clear ideas, correct spelling of word wall words and previous spelling
words, using a capital letter to start the sentence and an end mark to end each
complete sentence.
*Homework Note: Please remember that homework should be
taking 20-30 minutes each night plus 15-20 of reading and 5-10 minutes of
practicing the Math flashcards every day.
If your child is taking significantly longer or shorter to complete
his/her homework, please let me know.
*Fire Prevention Poster
Contest: Students can
make a poster for Fire Prevention Week Oct. 7-13th. This year’s theme is “Practice Your Escape
Plan”. If your child is interested, use
a paper 21 ½” x 17” size and fill in the entry form to tape/glue to the back of
the poster/paper. Entries are due by 1pm
on Friday Oct. 12th. Winners
will be honored on Thursday, Oct. 25th at 7pm.
*Weekly Student
Celebrations: Emily
will have work on the Principal Honors Board this week! Eddie will say the pledge as our class’ Good
Citizen (good behavior) this week! Nick
will be our Star Student this week! Great
job everyone!!
