Character Education

At Palos West, it is our hope that every student who passes through our school develops an understanding of and demonstrates three vital character traits:

·        Honesty

·        Respect

·        Responsibility

As a staff, we make great efforts to ensure that our students practice good citizenship and display these traits on a daily basis through our character education program.

Throughout the course of a school day, students refer each other for recognition and are rewarded for acts of honesty, respect, and responsibility as a result.  When all students can demonstrate an understanding of the importance of these qualities or have been referred for acts of kindness, each classroom is honored with a celebration.  Students also always enjoy our quarterly assemblies honoring each other for showing good citizenship!

It is true that the correct meanings of honesty, respect, and responsibility are difficult to convey to children.  Even we as adults have difficulty understanding and practicing these traits.  This is why we must work together at school and at home to teach and model these important qualities on a daily basis.

This is my fourth year at Palos West and am available by calling the Palos West School Office or emailing me.
