Medieval Ships
by Mary Pat and Aubrey

Like Roman ships, the Vikings had long, efficent ships that were propelled by oars and sails.  The oars and sails were actually developed by the Vikings and the Danes.
One of the classes of ships was called snekkja.  It had about 30 oars, and the larger classes had had 64 or more.  This type of ship was later adapted by the Saxons.
Just some examples of medieval Viking ships were Aifur, Anund, andthe Fyrdraca.
