Medieval Music
Medieval scholars were greatly influenced by Aristotle, who worked on music, arithmetic, and theology. Carols and chants started in the medieval period in England. Medieval musical instruments were like some of the instruments that we have today. They had a flute type of instrument called either a recorder or a lute that was made out of wood. Most of their chants did not have any instruments. The most famous chant that we know of is the Gregorian chant. Most of their chants and songs were not recorded so we don't know about them. Byzantine chants were mainly used by the monks. The monks were the main people who started the chants. They were big on religion, so they had many religious songs.
