"BOOM!  The castle wall is collapsing!"   A castle could be attacked in many ways; giant crossbows, cannons, and catapults are efficient ways to attack a castle. If a castle was loosing really bad, horses could help make a good back-up plan.  Castles were homes to many, some are... the king and  queen, nobles, and some knights.  Castles first existed in the 9th century. The walls in the castle, could be as thick as 30 feet.  The outer wall of the castle is called the Curtain wall.  Most castles had several walls for protection. They were often curved instead of straight to hold up better.  Usually in the cellar of the castle was a dungeon that held prisoners of war.

or why not?

2.  If you were a prisoner of war how would you escape?

3.  How many walls would you have around your castle? Why?
