Castles

Castles were made to protect people from enemies.People lived around castles in towns. Castleswere also made to help kings gain more control of more land ,with the armies in the castle. Castles from earlier times were called " motts and baileys".A mott , a hillish mound of earth in which towers stood. A palisade , was a wooden fence, went up The hill and around the castle.The palisade led out to the towns walls in which held people in and enemies out. Many years later tey turned the palisade into stone for more protection. The castles were also for get-to-gethers of the community. Usaly they were called feasts which were thrown by the royal family.

     1.Why were castles white at first ,then eventualy changed color?

     2 What did the castles use for defences and were they effective ?
 
      3. What foods were commonly eaten at feasts and which were hardest to get?
