The Notre Dame cathedral
was started in 1163 by bishop Maurice de Sully, and completed by 1250.
The west part of the cathedral is a french gothic style with three richly
carved portals. There are transpert fonts from the thirteenth century
decorated with two rose windows and circular stain glass windows.
The cathedral is about 900 years old. It played a key role in the story
Hunchback
of Notre Dame. The bells are still rung several times each day
and night. The cathedral is a very well known landmark. The
rose windows were the only windows left in the building and the other
stained
glass was replaced from World War 2. The famous rose window is
the size of the entire nave. The cathedral is gothic type.
About ten million photographs are taken of the Notre Dame cathedral each
year.
