8th grade Nutrition Unit

Food Fair Project (200 points)

1.    Research the science/nutrition link on the Palos South home page for websites containing information on nutrition, food guide pyramid, healthy foods, and healthy recipes.

2.  You may work on this project individually, with one other person or with 2 other people.

3.  Find a recipe that you will use as the focus for this project.  It must be nutritional and it follows the Food Guide Pyramid daily recommendations.

4.  The recipe that you select must contain the nutritional values (carbohydrates, proteins, calories, serving size, saturated fat, unsaturated fat, sugar, cholesterol, etc.).

5.  Prepare a 2-3 page report on the recipe that you have chosen and be sure to include information on (a.) the history of the recipe (where it came from and/or what country/ethnic background is it from),  (b.) why you decided on this particular recipe and where you found it on the net, (c.) how you went about making the recipe, and (d.) a copy of the recipe and all nutritional value information and how it fits into the Food Guide Pyramid daily recommendations.  Be sure to have a cover page and a reference page. (100 points)

6.  Prepare a presentation poster or menu board that identifies the name of the recipe, the actual recipe, and the nutritional values.  You may include pictures of the recipe or of the ingredients.  Make it colorful and inviting. (50 points)

7.  Prepare the recipe at home (with the help of an adult if you are to use cooking appliances).  Make the recipe for the amount of servings it states.  You do not have to double the recipe to feed every person in the class.  The recipe is only meant to be sampled.  (prepared food to present= 50 points)

8.  You will be assigned a specific date to bring in your report, poster, and food sample (Wednesday December 4th or Friday December 6th).

9.  Enjoy the project and have fun with it!  If for some reason you can not prepare the actual food, please notify Mrs. Pequette and the point values will be readjusted within the rest of the project to equal 200 points.
